Welcome to Western and Cowboy Poetry by Clark Crouch
which features poetry inspired by an acquaintance with Badger
Clark, Poet Laureate of South Dakota, family folklore dating back
through the 1880's, and personal experiences in the ranch
lands of the Western Nebraska Sandhills in the 1930's and
1940's. Life on the prairie was rugged and the ranchers,
cowboys, cow punchers, and pioneers often lived in a dugout or
sod house (soddy) with no amenities except a nearby stream or a
shallow well and an outhouse. The site contains western, cowboy,
and pioneer poetry and ballads and includes cowboy memories,
folklife and folklore information, pioneer history, ranch life,
and rodeo experiences.
